Hanging over Fitzalan Square....

blurb

‘Quotes for Hope’ is a new project by Sally Wilson, commissioned by and supported by DINA with funding from Arts Council England to create a piece of public art right next to our new venue on Fitzalan Square.

Quotes For Hope is a celebration of the cities people, their creativity and our basic connection to each other. You will find quotes here from Michael Palin and DJ Toddla T and sons right alongside ideas from Sheffield's youngest residents.

Whilst the doors of venues and theatres have been closed Sally felt it was important to “embellish our towns and cities with connection’s, creating visible chords to others…offering messages of hope. And revealing our best washed thoughts strung on a clothesline to air”. Early in 2021 we asked Sheffield artists and people with links to Sheffield's cultural sector what do you find motivating, moving and inspiring? We asked ‘Can you offer the people of Sheffield some words to make them smile?’

Contributors were asked to send a quote with no more than 72 characters to fit on 36 banners that will hang over Fitzalan Square from 25 March - 25 April 2021.

Alongside cultural producers quotes are the voices of Sheffield pre-schoolers at Ellesmere Children's Centre who told us what makes them feel happy!

We can’t wait to share this installation with you and hope walking beneath these banners will make you smile!
