CYTE RECS Sheffield w/ Force Majeure
Time & Location
About the Event
.We touch down in Sheffield for the first time in over three years (!) to celebrate the release of Utah?'s new EP, 'Bronze', at DINA on May 17, in association with Sheff party crewForce Majeure
Along for the ride are OG Coyote head-top spinner Last Japan, New Atlantis boss India Jordan (fresh from releasing her brilliant debut EP on Local Action), long-time Coyote designer and BAG DAT resident OKBREEZ and NTS' Ashley Holmes.
Since his debut Oxygen EP in 2015, which brought a sense of space and pathos to grime abstractions, Utah? has continued to developed a distinctive sound, with skittering trap-influenced hi hats and gut-wrenching drum stabs underneath echoing synths to create cinematic soundscapes at home in the sonic universe of label mates Last Japan and Silk Road Assassins. Radio sets on Rinse and NTS have allowed Utah to showcase a taste for all things grime, drill and trap, while a recent RSD in-store set was chock full of UKG. Head over to his soundcloud to hear a couple of tracks from his upcoming Bronze EP, before it drops at the end of May.
Describing his sound as “raw, gritty, atmospheric grime”, Last Japan has proved himself over the course of many releases as one of the most accomplished producers in the game, with an attention to the finer details of sound design making his productions equally suitable for the night bus or the club. Having collaborated with AJ Tracey, Killa P, Trim and Zomby amongst others, and sending the track IDers wild with his recent Keep Hush DJ set, we can't wait to see what he packs on the 17th.
Well known as the co-founder of New Atlantis, the ambient social and label co-founded with Deadboy, India Jordan's new EP DNT STP MY LV sees explore her love of “full-throttle dance music”. The title track fills a big soul sample over a relentless bassline while DN4, dedicated to the Donny ravers, draws from India’s love of classic hardcore and jungle – also showcased in her recent mix for Dummy Mag and her breakneck B2B with Finn.
Polymath behind the legendary Bagdat night and Coyote collaborator, head over to OKBreez's soundcloud for some smoked out hip hop and a summertime Alicia Wifey Riddim blend, or check out the Bagdat mix series for an idea of what you might hear on the night.
Known to many in Sheffield for his his Tough Matter platform on NTS and elsewhere, where he has facilitated collaboration and conversation with guests working predominantly across visual arts and music, Ashley is a skilled and versatile DJ, often seen at Picture House Social and elsewhere, switching genres and keeping the crowd moving.
