In 2016, DINA Venue was converted from a derelict nightclub and pub complex into a multi-storey building that now is the heart of alternative arts and culture in Sheffield. We host all types of events with a specific interest in developing and nurturing new talent, social projects and those that are at the core of the community we are so lucky to be surrounded by.
DINA was started up by a small team of hardworking individuals, and soon collected a motley crew of people listed below that are core members of the DINA family. These people have all developed their own projects within the venue. One of these being DINA Diner, started up by Zoe Kinross in 2017, which is our vegan and vegetarian cafe. Another project was begun by Miriam Schechter, the Cellar Theatre, where she and a group of young artists converted our damp and dilapidated beer cellar into a 30-seater space. It was ran as an autonomous space from 2017-2019 by Miriam, Sam Dickinson and Luke Cornwell, and is now integrated into DINA as a space for intimate performances and rehearsals.
In 2019, we let out our upstairs space known as the Stardust Bar and Jara Room to a new nightclub, Network, run by Record Junkee. We now occupy the downstairs spaces which includes our cafe, DINA Diner, a large multipurpose space, the Spoon Factory and our small theatre space, The Cellar.
We are a centre for the LGBTQ+ community and host weekly meet-ups, as well as providing cheap and sometimes free space to charities and fundraisers for issues that we care about. We regularly have talented artists come and use our space and get involved with helping out with the venue in exchange for rehearsals and performances.
